It was the plugin: WPB WooCommerce Category Slider PRO Version 1.3 | By wpbean | Visit plugin site causing the issue.
The filter does work on this page:
https://typewriterfeet.com/product-tag/new/
and on the product category page, but not the shop page as stated above, any guidance is really appreciated!
