Thanks, ended up figuring out what to edit in the plugin files to make it support gifs.
Wanted to wait for an official reply though to be sure I wasn’t missing something obvious.

Solved my own problem here. I deleted the Jetpack and WP Super Cache plugins and the problem went away.
