I figured it out. Because i changed the blog address (as opposed to wp address) to the root, the feed needed to be http://ffiwot.com/wp-rss.php, NOT http://ffiwot.com/wordpress/wp-rss.php even though the physical location of the files is http://ffiwot.com/wordpress/.
Hopefully this will help someone else.
