I’m having the exact same problem. I’ve tested Pages, Posts and Custom Posts. All of them redirect, however, none of them open in a new tab, even though “open link in a new tab” is checked.
I had the same issue using WP 5.4.1 and the Blocks Editor with CPTs. I installed the Classic Editor and this resolved the issue for me. There seems to be some conflict wit the Blocks Editor.
