I have a question for everyone (in case anyone has had to do this); does anyone know of a workable code that would produce the same exact function, except with subcategories as well? So for example, if I have a dessert website, and a user wants to find cookies in the West Village NYC, they can select the category “West Village”; then under that, choose “Cookies”?

I don’t know what I did wrong, but when I went into functions.php, went down to iphone_css(), and then below it, commented out the add_action line (using the usual <!– and –> ), everything went white–my website, the Dashboard–EVERYTHING. I backed up the browser so that I could return to the Functions.php file, then removed the “comment out” characters I had added (so that it was back to the way it was), and saved the changes, and now EVERYTHING is white–I can’t access my website or the Dashboard. All I get is a blank screen in either case. Please help!
I should be more clear: I don’t want to change the header; that is where the beer image currently appears. Changing the “background” will only change the black coloring on the right side of the screen, which I also don’t want to do. I only want to change the white part in the middle where people add new posts, as well as the color of the sidebar. I went into every file in the Editor section, but whenever I changed any pre-designated color in any of those files, it didn’t change the area I’m trying to change. There must be a way…
Indeed, that’s exactly where I’ve been looking but can’t find the file in which this needs to be changed. Does anyone have any ideas?

In reply to: Dropdown Category Selection for Publishing Posts in P2 theme v.1.1.3Sorry for the false alarm… for whatever reason, my website folder contained 2 copies of p2.js and both were in an odd location, which confused things a bit. I got rid of the doppelganger and just followed the instructions, and they worked like a charm. Thank you so much!

Thank you for pointing out the release of v1.1.7! I didn’t realize they’d recently upgraded. I have a quick question concerning your instructions: I’m finding everything you’re referencing except the first step (“In p2.js go to line 217 which should show: ….”) are you referring to js.php? I ask because I couldn’t find the line 217 language you’re describing in js.php and feel that I might be looking in the wrong place.

Haha, indeed I have. 🙂 (Please see my unanswered comments at the bottom of that post.) I also found another post where someone figured out how to do this on a previous version of P2, but that coding change doesn’t work on the current version. There must be a way, there must be a way….

I have my website set up so that all the ways visitors can sort the data (by selecting a category, etc.) are in the sidebar–so without that, they can’t really navigate the website from the iPhone. Does anyone have any idea how to make the sidebar show up on an iPhone?

In reply to: Dropdown Category Selection for Publishing Posts in P2 theme v.1.1.3Now that I read it again, I should probably clarify my question a bit: Is there a way to modify the P2 theme so that, when a visitor is looking at the front end of the website (not the Dashboard), types their message into the box at the top of the screen, and hits the “Post It” button, there will also be an option for them to select a category for their post from a drop-down list?

This is precisely what I’m trying to figure out–i.e., I need for users to be able to choose from a drop-down categories list the category that best fits their post.

Thanks for your note. I see what the problem is now; I’m using the theme P2 (by Automatic), and I have it set up so that visitors are “contributors”… what I didn’t realize is that, once contributors log in, they are taken to a Dashboard page and must create new post from *that* page, versus being able to post their comments directly on the home page (the way Twitter users do). Has anyone found a way to re-jig the theme a bit (or is there a plug-in) so that users can just type their note into a box on the home page? I worry that some users might get befuddled by the Dashboard page, and it would be great to bypass it if that’s possible.

I’ve been trying for several days. Is it possible that the website has been down for more than a week? (Is there any other place I’d be able to download the template I need?)

No problem. I’ll just get out of Google Translator and go to the Italian version of the website, then download it. Except… the Italian version takes me back to the broken link I had in the beginning. 🙁

The only snag is that you can’t preview any of the templates before downloading them. (The instructions state that you can preview them by clicking on the links on the right side of the page, but it doesn’t work.) I’m so close…. so close! ….
