Thank you. It works now as expected. I ended up doing both.
I added the code to .htaccess in the /blog directory and I renamed the .htaccess file in the public_html directory to .htaccess.bak2 (Apparently I created a backup before–who knew?). A new .htaccess file was generated in the public_html directory. Now the site redirects from .com to /blog AND the permalinks are set to Day & Dame and it all works together.
Thanks again!

In reply to: Redirect to /blog breaks pretty permalinksWhich .htaccess should I add this to?
I have 2 .htaccess files.
The first one is in the public_html folder.
The second one is in the /blog folder (the /blog folder is at the root of the public_html folder).
Great!
I also see that the photos that have captions which go to 2 or 3 lines are overlapping the photo. The space between the lines of text is very tall. Is there a way to add custom CSS to modify this? The same text is also occasionally overlapping the X close button. Maybe the X close button can have a translucent box around the X? Or maybe the text can have pudding/margin on the right side to avoid overlapping with the X close button.
Take a look at my Instagram gallery on mobile and go through several photos to see what I mean. 🙂
I checked the settings and this was indeed checked.
I un-checked this setting and saved the settings and now it it working as expected in mobile.
It seems to be applying the opposite settings.
It is currently un-checked if you would like to confirm?
