Actually i had the same weird appearance but i did a fresh install with the latest.tar.gz
In the target directory i ran:
wget https://ww.wp.xz.cn/latest.tar.gz
tar xfvz latest.tar.gz ./ --strip-components=1
So Nothing special but it looks that this particular tar I was served was corrupted.
