I was also receiving your reported error. After looking at all of my plugins, I realized that I had 2 different backup plugins activated. Deactivating all but plugin “Backup by Sorin Iclanzan” stopped the error and allowed the “manual” backup to proceed successfully.
Verify that you are using only ONE backup plugin.
