I am also looking for an answer to this problem.
If I try to add f.ex. ‘blåbærsyltetøy‘ to the title, I get ‘blabaersyltetøy‘ in return. I was hoping to see either ‘blaabaersyltetoey‘ or ‘blåbærsyltetøy‘.

Hm, I think I fixed it. Just tried editing
.ngg-singlepic {
background-color:#36F;
display:block;
padding:2px;
which actually made a difference.

I would prefer leaving the URI privateish, but If I can send it to you off the record, esmi, let me know. Getting this sorted would be very nice.
The current code I am using to test NextGEN Gallery is: [singlepic id=1 w=320 h=240 mode=web20 float=right]
This code does not provide any border. I have tried changing to another style sheet in the Style Editor without seeing any changes.
