I just figured it out after tweaking a bunch of stuff, two images were too tall, more like a 4″x6″ (but I thought they resize automatically for the feature image? and it worked fine before the update?)
Once I elongated the images and replace them by deleting the old featured image, the buttons went back to normal.
Hope this helps for anyone else who might have the same issue!
Resolved by deactivating Jetpack and installing an open graph plugin. It was Jetpack that was acting up the whole time (even when all other OG plugins are deactivated.
