Thank you Predag, I shall try that in the next few days, and give feedback on how I get on. At the moment I am still logged-in but I do want Defender to work as well.

    Update:
I just tried to enable Defender plug-in and “The administrator has blocked your IP from accessing this website.” Argh. Back to the first post/steps of disabling & enabling plug-ins again…

Is that what you mean by cache? Via ftp, I can see wp-content” folder has a “cache’ folder. Within it, “index.html” file + “wph” and “tmp” (both empty) folders. Interestingly the date modified of the wph folder was 4th Feb 2021, 23.07pm MST. But for index.html and tmp folder was last modified 6th Mar 2017.

    Hi Adam,

    Thank you for getting back.

Yes there is a log-in mask plug-in: “WP Hide & Security Enhancer”. I haven’t logged out yet to ‘test’ if I log-in normal or via the masked login page.

    PLUG-INS Enabled:
All in One SEO / Better Search Replace / Duplicator / GDPR Cookie Compliance / Google Analytics for WP by MonsterInsights / NextGEN Gallery / SiteLock / Smush / Wordfence Assistant / Wordfence Security / WP Content Copy Protection & No Right Click

    Disabled:
Defender / Yoast Duplicate Post / Yoast SEO / Captchinoo, Google recaptcha for admin login page / WP Hide & Security Enhancer

    Not using:
    Akismet Anti-Spam / reSmush.it / UpdraftPlus – Backup Restore

About the CACHE, where should I look? I am not a pro user or programmer but can figure out if explained.

    Thanks.

    Update:

I managed to log-in again by doing the following:
    1. via ftp:
    wp-content folder > plug-ins folder
    Re-name “plug-ins” folder as “plug-ins_old”
    2. log-in on WP dashboard with latest reset password – successful
Plug-ins are temporarily disabled so I manually enabled each except those in my suspect list. Which includes Defender. For some reason if I enable Defender it locks me out again.
    3. via fto: rename the “plug-ins_old” folder back to “plug-ins”
    4. Using WordFence scan I deleted the suspicious file.
    5. I could not see where my IP address was on blocked or whitelist, on MySql database nor blocked list on WordFence.

So far so good, except when can I turn on Defender? It cut down the spam attacks drastically. Perhaps there a setting I have wrongly turned on/clash? Kindly advise.
