    I have another question…
Here is another test link, I’m not sharing with the public yet.

    https://nlcc.net/sh_podcasting_epi/matthew-chapter-12-part-3/

Notice the styling of the page. This is exactly like I have with Seriously Simple. Is this a layout and style that is provided by that plugin, that would be changed by Selfhosting, or is it a byproduct the theme I’m using (SiteOrigin “North”)? I notice that I don’t have the option with this theme to choose whether or not I want the sidebar on it.
I noticed you have designed themes, I don’t know how to crack open a theme to redesign my own template for this use.
If Simply has designed it, I’ll retire that theme, and go with Selfhosting; being the idea anyway, to manage my own podcast. But I was hoping to be able to create a template for the list of the episodes for a specific podcast, as well as for the individual episodes.

I’m guessing this might be beyond standard support?…

I can confirm, all issues covered!
I’ll rechecking about moving current podcasts over.
Thank you for your help! I’ll be writing a review soon.

    Greetings!
Yes, the text plugin reflected the two changes:
Feed page now says “Media URL”
and Podcasts preview now says “Watch”
(IMHO, I would suggest changing “Watch” to “Play”, as it could cover both Audio and Video files, and “Play/Pause” is a well known switch on many devices and/or players. In fact, after the Watch is selected it displays “Pause”, I would also suggest considering displaying both commands somehow, but I’d leave that up to you…)
BTW, looking ahead to support others, I use a Mac running Safari, but this could be with other browsers too, when I first viewed the new plugin, it would show “Watch” and then in 2 seconds it would switch back to “Listen”. I first thought it may have been a flaw, but I remembered similar experiences with other products, so I emptied the browser cache and cleared all of the browser history, restarted the browser and then the plugin worked as designed.

The link to the current podcasts is nlcc.net, and there are two pages with 4 different “shows” (or 5?). This site was built “as we went along” over several years. The church shut down September 2024, but we keep these messages up for the public’s benefit.
But you can see, I would much rather reorganize them a little better, and get more notes to include with each episode, which would be a bit of an overhaul…

Again, thank you for your time!…

You are awesome! Sound is working fine…

    Now, I have a few questions…

    Connect Services -> Podcast Player:
I have the Podcast Player installed and activated, but when I go to this screen, I can’t select any of the boxes. I can change the two drop down menus, and the accent color, but these boxes don’t respond. I can view the podcast episode page and that’s definitely the Podcast Player (because it’s new), but I’m wondering, Jetpack VideoPress has two selections, to display a share menu and to display a download option, can this conflict with Podcast Player and be causing this?

I’m still new to the Gutenberg Block method, to be honest I’m still using the “Classic” editor where I can, but this add block or shortcode choice, does this enable me to style my own pages of episodes? How can I designate a page to show a list of episodes, and can I build a page template of my own design for the Player?

To be honest, I like the simplicity and look of the default design, much better than what I’ve been using. I have like 96 episodes and I will look into importing them, but I wouldn’t mind going from scratch, they’re all on VideoPress so I just have to recreate the info for each episode and repost them.
I have to bring this up with a couple of people, but if I do I’ll go with the Pro version…

Quick note, on the episode page the button to play is marked “Listen”. Now that it’s doing video, can it be changed to something like “Play”?
Also on the Podcast Feed page it lists the URL as “Audio URL”… Perhaps “Media”, or “Link” or just “URL”?

    Thank you for your time!

    Greetings!
I can see I need to go over instructions to complete a few things, but I did produce a test episode, and everything works except one thing – sound. All the info I entered shows up, I like the layout and the player, but no matter what I tried it’s silent. Am I supposed to “publish” the episode, as one publishes a page, and if so, where? I could not find a button labeled Publish….

The URL is the actual test episode:

    https://nlcc.net/feed/gospel-of-matthew-2023?shp_preview=1

This is the Feed URL, correct? Note is says “audio”…

I’ve only ever used Simply Simple, so I might need a little help…

I like the look, and already the player is better than what I’ve had!

    Thank you!

Attention has been given, and it has been noted that there is some issue with the SSL certificate not being complete, an issue with the hosting company. We shall see!

I also thank you for that answer!

Alas, it’s still displaying the creation date as the recorded date. Can’t figure, since all the settings say different…

In the meantime, I’ve turned off the information display, and have the recorded date as part of the podcast name.

At least I can still use the series names to keep the lists separate, though I have to post them in order, else they show up in posting order…

    Thanks for the help!

    Epiphany –
First, are you changing the file format on import? If so, which?
Second, I’ve believed that info stays with the file unless it’s intentionally removed, which a change in formats will do; have you done a test run?

    Hope this helps…

This plugin is not designed to change that information; reference this link about metadata in a file…

Edit: I should point out, even though this article is written about iTunes, it nonetheless tells about file tagging in general, including that WAV files do not provide space for this information…

Jim – could you post a link so I can see what you’re doing with it?…

That would be ideal, but I would not recommend it. The images used in WP are still added by WP, and therefore are created based on the previous image. Maybe, if the image you’re using is the same dimensions, but if not, the image mist try to keep the settings based on the previous image, and that will cause distortions.
For me, I’d go the long way around and replace each image. I’ve used edited links in both with WP and without, and have had success, but also failures, and often times the failures aren’t so easily identified. One of WP’s strengths is it builds the links automatically so there’s a lower chance of a problem.
Do you use the templates in WP? That would help to cut down the need to replace so many images.

    Hope this helps!…

Supposedly at this point it would targeted to the directory containing all the media. It’s there that it would make the several copies that are available when you try to place media, and you get the drop-down to choose which size, etc.
I would look into where the media files are held and see if that one file, and all it copies made it in there.
If not, it would be next to check if anything is getting in there from WP’s own import method, or if it’s Add From Server.
As I say, I’m no expert; however, I DO remember a thread once about the version of JavaScript the server is running, and, if the Add From Server is rated for the one in use. I had a small issue years ago with GoDaddy about the JavaScript version, and I had to buy in to a newer server because of it.
So if this were me, that’s the kinds of things I’d be looking at. Something is NOT functioning, so you need to be determining is it be blocked, or is the mechanism of importing media is broken…

Thank you for telling? A lot of people abandon the conversation at this point!
I must admit, I’ve never heard of either of them, but at least we know!
    Again, thanks!…

Fantastic! Which two did you determine we’re giving you the problems? It may be golden information for another builder!…

Hmmm… I only comment because I’ve used it several times without a problem.
Step back, start over. You made a directory with which to FTP to. Is in a directory that might be write protected? Is the directory also write protected? Test with one file file. Work? If not, you gotta peel back and find out why.
I had a problem with it once doing over 100 files; brought it down to 30 at a time and it’s ok. Don’t forget, WP takes each image and makes several different copies of varying sizes. Also, if any of your files are over 2MB, the server might have a limit set that may stop the upload.
As I say I’m no expert, but that plugin has been a godsend for me. As I say, back up, take each step one by one. Try one file. If it works, try 10. Look for where it won’t work and try to figure why. I can tell you it’s a great plugin that should work. If it isn’t, it’s probably not you, just a server setting somewhere. Also; I always place the FTP folder at the root level of the WP installation. See if that helps.
If nothing else, write the developer!…
