I still think this would be a great, and intuitive approach to user-category management. What do you think?
To be honest when I first used the bulk features I completely expected the changes made to only apply to those user I had checked off. I was confused for the first 10 minutes why the changes were applying to all my users.
Even the warning “Preferences for Registered Users selected in the filter above can be changed using this section.” seems to imply on the users selected above (checked) will be changed, rather than those shown above using the filter.
It is my opinion that the most intuitive method is that changes be applied to checked-off users. Given that there is a ‘check all’ box it is still simple and intuitive to apply changes to all users in the filter.
The filter function should be used to display only users in a specific group with the checkbox function should be used to select those users which you wish to apply changes to.
I think a simple pop-up asking “No user was checked. Apply changes to all users in current filter? Yes/Cancel + [] Remember next time. would work great.
Of course it’s up to you but I think improvement on the functionality of this area is important.
Otherwise, if the check/not checked thing is a problem, improving the filter so I could pull out specific users based on metadata or something else might be a solution.
