I think I have managed to overcome most problems, but still can’t get the displayed user profile to match the profile as seen by the administrator using the admin dashboard. As this is a more specific problem, I will close this as resolved and start a new thread.

I was obviously confused by the use of 2 different membership plugins, and have now realised that some of the fields which I couldn’t see were ones created by WP-Members. I have also found the way to add new fields to a user profile, although can’t see how to display an email address without asking users to enter it twice.

I now seem to have partly solved the problem, as I have found that the member profiles being displayed on showed fields with data, most of which were unpoulated as this is only a test data base. However the profile does not show all the populated fields, so I would like advice on how to edit the template which the members profiles are displayed in, so that I can add the ones which are missing.
Incidentally, I also found that there seemed to be a conflict between WordPress Access Control and WP-Members, so I have deactivated the latter, as I am confused by which plugin does what and think it is probably less confusing to work with fewer. However, I am not sure whether there is any residual codes or data left after deactivation; could someone please advise me on that point.

Thank you all for your advice. I now think I have the site and database transferred.

My difficulty is that I don’t know what is on which site, as the WP admin logon always seems to take me to the new site, but changes I make on that are reflected on the old site as well as the new one. However I have found the database on the old site.

esmi, Thank you for that advice. I have looked at the article, and wish I had done so before I started, unfortunately I seem to have done things in the wrong order, copied the files, opened them and then changed the URL. Added to whihc I don’t know how to identify the database so do not know if that has been copied or not. Neither do I know if the files which I now need to repair are in the old domain or the new new one. I have used Filezilla to FTP copies of the wp-admin,wp-content and wp-includes folders from both old and new domains to my hard drive, but am not sure if I have the database.

I copied all the folders and contents (or thought I had) and assumed that included the database. What name would that have and where would I find it?

Thank you for the link, unfortunately I can’t see anything in it which will solve my problem. I have moved my site and the new one appears to be working OK. The original one however seems to have also picked up the changes which I had made on the duplicate and I only seem to be able to access the new one through the dashboard.

Perhaps I should just remove all the WP files from the first site and make a new installation. I am concerned though as WP seems to generate so many files and folders and I am not sure what they all are. Is there a beginners guide to what all the files and folders are?
