Hello Andrea, thanks for the info ๐Ÿ™‚

The reason I was asking is because I am trying to create a new plugin to replace the outdated “Member Swipe” plugin which in its current state does not receive support and updates anymore. (Also, when I tested it I encountered some issues such as some user profile avatars not correctly displaying, etc.).

I know that I could use the [bps_directory] shortcode but since I create a new plugin I might as well create the custom directory right inside of it.

You said to include both the index.php and members-loop.php, to fully customize the members directory. If I added them to the plugin, how would I go about it then? How would you start to create a custom directory in a new plugin?

So, I would like to create a new plugin that lets me display a custom directory which will work with BP Search Form plugin to filter for users/user details.

I am aware that this question goes further than simple plugin support, I am just hoping for the best.

Always appreciate your input, Andrea ๐Ÿ˜‰

Just checking in, is there a way in form of a code snippet to show the value from other fields (created with other plugins or code) inside of ACF fields? So if a user enters a value in a field to also show the value in a ACF field?

    Thanks.

Hi Andrea, sorry to follow-up on this topic.

Your code lets me now select the directory on the page I chose. So that is pretty great ๐Ÿ˜‰ But how do I get a custom directory onto that page now (if I do not use the member swipe plugin)?

I saw on your website https://dontdream.it/ that you outline these steps:

Copy index.php to index-2.php and members-loop.php to members-loop-2.php and then add them to child theme. Then use the shortcode [bps_directory template=”members/index-2, members/members-loop-2″] to place the custom directory on the page.

May I simply ask to understand this more why:

    1. both templates? index.php + members-loop.php and not just the members-loop.php file?
    2. why add them to the child theme and not simply duplicate them and leave them in the same folder? Just to avoid update changes that might affect the new custom directory then or are there other reasons behind it?

Thanks again in advance, really appreciate it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wow, thanks for the in-depth answer, really appreciate it ๐Ÿ™‚

May I just ask if this pre-render could then be an option for websites made with Buddypress or Buddyboss, where potentially hundreds of concurrent users are online? Or will that be too ressource heavy on the server then when several hundred pre-rendered pages are kept in memory at a time?

Just to explain, Buddyboss websites are generally on the slower side as they can be quite ressource heavy (many requests, concurrency etc) so anyhting that helps boost performance is seen as sth. wonderful ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi, just wondering if you are still checking “if โ€œEventOnโ€ also have a BuddyBoss integration or in case it does not have one if one is planned?”

Would be great to integrate the events with BuddyBoss ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello, thank you for the response ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, cannot wait for the privacy consent feature then.

Actually you did not completely answer my question but that might have been my fault. Let me rephrase my initial question:

Does your plugin scan for cookies and/or any necessary user consent on a website or will I need to fill out each component/part myselft, i.e. add consent options manually to the consent pop-up?

In case your plugin scans the website, will it store the consent for each user somewehre in a dashboard or database?

The reason is, lets say a user refuses to give consent to marketing emails (not subscriptions, but others) then I assume once I sent out the marketing emails this specific user is not automatically excluded from the emal list. That means I would have to manually check what users have refused to receive any marketing emails in the system to follow each users consent.

I hope I am much clearer this time around. Just to inform a user about what is going on on my website I could simply create a simple pop-up and tell them there. However, I need the underlying functionality to then store that consent so I can either automatically block things from getting displayed such as Youtube videos (what your plugin probably does) but also emails etc.

If your plugin stores consent or cookies anywehere, I need to be able to follow up on that in case I need it or a user asks me. That is the main point I am trying to make ๐Ÿ˜‰

Your plugin might be doing these things already, I just need to ensure and confirm with you.

      Kind regards ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey, thanks for the answer, really appreciate your clarification ๐Ÿ™‚

One more thing, you mention that Solid Securityโ€™s Site Scanner can notify you if it detects a vulnerability – does Solid Security show changes between old and new files?

In Wordfence, any change in a plugin/theme or files can be opened to then see what lines are different/what has been added or removed. Is this also possible with Solid Security?

Sorry to bother you again, I am just wondering what happens if I use the 8G option from your website, then how much is redundant because its already in the BBQ firewall plugin.

Or asked differently: will there be any issues/conflicts if I use both (BBQ plugin + the website 8G code)? And also, some security plugins, Wordfebce, Cloudflare etc. also offer firewall rules, any experience whether there might be conflicts if the same firewall rule is used by different instances?

Just need to know to set up everything in best way possible ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Thanks again.

Okay cool, good to know ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, will be great to then upgrade to 8G, in the meantime I will use this plugin then.

Keep the community in the loop about the update, I am sure many will be interested.

      Hi Andrea,

Sorry for thelate reply, I just had time to check your code.

It is actually working, thank you sooo much!

Maybe you can post the code on your website then others can use it too, if they are interested ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Again, thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi, thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it ๐Ÿ™‚

I was hoping that there was a dropdown solution for cities the same way there is one for countries. I have come across websites that implement something like a nested way of showing this: first a user selects a country from dropdown and then a second dropdown appears with city options related to that specific country.

Another possible solution could have been to have a dropdown for cities that list only the cities that members on the website have entered while filling out their profile page (BuddyBoss). This would be a selective pre-populated kind of solution.

To answer your question: I have tried several ways to implement a profile field where members enter their city so that the city can then be searched in BP search form:

1; create own dropdown (and populate the dropdown with city options which is far from optimal as you would need to enter hundreds of cities manually).

2;use a simple single line text field (member needs to enter city manually)

3.geolocation field (which unnecessarily mentions state and country, as I already have acountry field)

Unfortunately, the fields do not all work with one another (interdependency). For example, If I use geolocation in the profile registration (so city, state and country are given) but want a country dropdown in the search form, the country dropdown does not find the user. The only way to find the user is to use a “any type field” where a user would have to manually start typing the country name. So, the only way to search for city is by having a user manually enter the city name.

Using geolocation for both profile page and search form can become quite costly (depending on bots and number of users).

Long story short, I was hoping there to be a more straightforward dropdown solution, to have a more user-friendly and faster way for users to search for other users by city. Best case scenario, I could have a dropdown for cities that show only the cities that users have entered in their profiles.

That would be really awesome ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, its possible to create pages with BuddyBoss.

Cool, then I can insert shortcodes ๐Ÿ™‚

All good then, thanks for your help.

      Will do Ravi ๐Ÿ˜‰
Would have been awesome though, you could turn it into a freemium (paid extension) plugin.
All good, I just wanted to know. I will mark them manually then.

      (@chrishechler)

Hello Ravi, thank you for your message.

Well, I use the normal “member” widget that comes with Buddypress/Buddyboss.
It shows (inside a widget – sidebar) members according to “active”, “new” and “popular”.
So users can switch between these three tabs and see a number of members in this sidebar widget.

As far as I understand, I need to mark usres as featured manually in the backend.
I was hoping that it is possible for the “featured member” plugin to tap into this widget and mark popualar users automatically as featured.

      That would be fantastic!
