The thing is though, the images work from flickr on nearly all posts – the only time they don’t work is if there is an image gallery present. That is the issue I am trying to fix.
I fully expect that if there is only an image gallery for a post, it can’t show a thumbnail. That is fine.
It sounds like there is a clash of some library or something like that – how can I trace that?

The settings on the thumbnail tab are as follows:
Location of the post thumbnail: Display thumbnails inline with posts, before title
Thumbnail size: Thumbnail (150×150)
Thumbnail width: 150
Thumbnail height: 150
Hard Crop Thumbnails: Yes
Generate thumbnail sizes: Yes
Thumbnail size attributes: CSS
Thumbnail meta field name: post-image
get first image: yes
Use default thumbnail: no

When I turn this setting on, the default thumbnail shows under the following circumstances:
– for pages WITHOUT the image gallery, it shows up ONLY for posts without a standalone image
– for pages WITH the image gallery, it shows up for all posts.two example:

Other than with the image gallery, the plugin has been successfully pulling the first image (if present).
The post for the 2014 french car day does not have standalone images, its one of the about 20% that don’t. If that page is suggested by another page, it correctly shows no thumbnail.
I’ve used two image gallery plug-ins to generate the gallery.
Most of them use Awesome Flickr Gallery, but as this plug in is no longer being developed, I have started to migrate the galleries to Photonic Gallery. Of about 500 posts on the site, about 20-30 have image galleries. Some also have a stand alone picture, but not all of them. The ones that have a stand alone picture properly show the thumbnail when being referred from a post that does not have an image gallery.Cheers,

all those posts have a standalone image and show up properly when there is no image gallery. When there is an image gallery on the page, none of the related posts show thumbnails. But if there is no image gallery, it shows up.Bryce
