I spoke too soon. @alanfuller I apologize – I am new to wordpress so not sure what the best way is to solve my issue.
Then end goal is (and these are all just example urls):
the main url is and will stay test.dog.com
the business decided they do not want to display test.dog.com/cat and want the user to see the url change to test.cat.com – either when entered into the address bar or when clicking on the link in the website to the “cat” section
AND when navigating back to the “dog section” of the site – the url should change to test.dog.com
They do not want to set up a separate site and simply link the other site – it is all being done within the test.dog.com wordpress site
I have set up a multi domain mapping plugin however when navigating to test.cat.com – the styling is altered a bit. I believe this is because test.cat.com is not set up as a wordpress site but just mirroring test.dog.com
I am just trying to find a solution that will have the url change and the mapping plugin is almost doing what i want but not quite there.
