Right now we don’t have a great integration with theme defaults (it’s planned) but we should be able to achieve this with a bit of code.
Would you be able to share a link to the page?
Also, is the idea for our plugin to inherit the current fonts being used on the frontend?

We upload to wp-content/uploads/
And create a folder – ‘custom-layouts’ and in there we then store a css file.
Yeah I would make sure write permissions are wp defaults.
I have come across one issue that may be of interest but I would only recommend that on a private server (and it may be unrelated)

I’m spending some time on updating Custom Layouts today so will dive right into this.
Can you tell me, is the effect exactly the same as before (with the templates) and nothing showing at all?
Or does it partially load, but is not usable? (could you send a screenshot again if it’s different?)

That looks like a bug or a conflict, nothing to be embarassed about!
A couple of things to try:
1. Are you using WPML? We are aware of a bug with WPML and are working on a fix
2. I guess there is an error somewhere in your browser we need to look at. Can you open the “debug console” and show me any errors? This article explains how to acecss the debug console in Chrome, but all major browsers have this feature:

Yeah, we’ll be working on all the above after we’ve tackled the challenge of supporting all (or most) Gutenberg blocks.
I hope that will be towards the end of this year and then we’ll begin the rest.
Hopefully we’ll be ready on your next project(s)!
