In reply to: Before I go into my first theme editing experience…Okay so the answer then is that I don’t really code..
I can build websites with Dreamweaver but without it I’m lost.
I don’t know where I would put that code and how I would write it without the proper tools.
Any direction or help?

In reply to: Before I go into my first theme editing experience…lol.. sorry I may be getting confusing with my words, as I’m not adept at this stuff..
Nothing is stopping me. I want to use it. I just need to know how I can make the navigation clickable to link to other pages.
I know how to upload the image to wordpress and style it to use the header. That’s easy. I don’t know how to turn those spots on the image into links.

In reply to: Before I go into my first theme editing experience…If you check out the site I linked, there’s a header image up there. To the right of the “fictionist” part is another image of hand drawn navigation. That’s just an image with a link map done to it so certain hotspots are defined in the html to function as links to other pages.
I want to do the same thing. Essentially, have the same head navigation so it looks just like the rest of the site with the header. The blog is going to serve the purposes of 2 of those pages in the site… but we want them to blend real well.
check out http://www.fictionist.net/blog . I put this theme up and want to mess with it to get our look. You’ll notice they have a link on 2 parts of that header.. the rss logo and the picture that takes you to the home page… that seems like the same functionality.

In reply to: Before I go into my first theme editing experience…Hmm.. okay yeah I think I understand the general concepts.
What I don’t get is to make an image of mine clickable with links so I can have my header image have the nav on it.
That would ultimately be the biggest thing for me.

In reply to: Using WordPress as a CMS in subsections of my site…Interesting…
Actually I’d rather use it purely as a blog, and maintain the other pages as static.
I guess I’m trying to clarify what that root folder is. If it’s purely the folder that is default when I load up my site in Filezilla, then it’s easy.
I’m having a hard time testing it because I just pointed my domain to my hosting and so it’ll take a few days before I see anything.
Having the site at the http://www.mydomain.net/blog url is ideal though.

In reply to: Using WordPress as a CMS in subsections of my site…update:
There’s a “public_html” folder, I was thinking it would all go in there, no?

In reply to: Using WordPress as a CMS in subsections of my site…So.. if I pull up my site in Filezilla, I get a list of folders. Do I just create a new folder among those folders, or do I create a blog folder inside of one of those folders.
Sorry I’m new to this and I don’t understand the structure of this stuff as well. I’m using blue host.

In reply to: This is my Installation Error…Wow… I’m actually appalled at the attitude here. I really am.
Does not everyone have to learn somewhere? I guess there’s no place for that with some people.
The company is successful, just hit the Inc Magazine top 500 fastest growing companies. That being said, blogging is a new idea that they’re not positive requires full resources just yet.
You must not be a business person at all. A brand new step for a successful company like a blog is not smart to immediately siphon effort and opportunity costs into something that’s unproven for their business.
Then again, I guess business sense is for normal people.

In reply to: This is my Installation Error…Hmm.. not the kind of help I was looking for.
They are new to blogging.. I write and can do SEO. I’m not a tech guy. Furthermore, they have web guys that are extremely busy with work they do. They could have one of them do it, but WordPress boasts an easy installation procedure, so I told them I’d give it a shot before we took anyone else off their projects.
Just suggestions on how to sort out the thing I did wrong please.

In reply to: This is my Installation Error…I’m sorry for being bad at this..
My work bought the website and they gave me the password to upload wordpress so we can have our company blog. I’m not sure of this management interface.

In reply to: This is my Installation Error…I thought they did.. I followed the instructions but on the “Database” name I just put “blog” and in the username and password parts I used the same username and password that I got when I registered the domain.
