In reply to: [CongressLookup] Can’t Get Sunlight API KeyWe are currently working on an update to fix this but I have no ETA on it. Until then, if you are able to enter your own Google Maps API key then that would fix your issue. I’ll update you when we have the plugin fixed.

In reply to: [CongressLookup] Can’t Get Sunlight API KeyThank you for bearing with us as we worked through finding the problem behind the recent errors with installing and using the CongressLookup plugin.
WHAT TO DO
Currently no API key is needed. However, our plugin still looks for one to be entered. So all you have to do is put anything you want in the API key field to make it work.NOTE
There is still an error in the WP Admin from the plugin. This only effects the ability to download new images of the Congress people. I will put out an update as soon as I get the correct url. Please let me know if you continue to have any issues with CongressLookup.

In reply to: [CongressLookup] Can’t Get Sunlight API KeyUPDATE
The problem is indeed with Sunlight Labs. Sunlight Foundation has closed The Lab down and the Congress API that we use for our plugin is now being managed by ProReplublica.org This is why our plugin still works for anyone who has a working API Key because the connection is still there. I am still looking into how we get new API keys.
Eventually they will deprecate the Sunlight Congress API in favor of their own Congress API. Our goal is to transition to them before that happens.
As soon as I know more I will report back.

In reply to: [CongressLookup] Can’t Get Sunlight API KeyWe were made aware of this issue earlier today. The problem is out of our control as it is caused by changed Sunlight Labs has done on their website. I am working to have them resolve this issue.

In reply to: [CongressLookup] Shows up But Can’t SearchThe plugin does not have a function to search by name.
How CongressLookup plugin works is it uses Google Map API to get the longitude and latitude of the entered address and then uses these coordinates with the Sunlight Labs Congress API to get the congresspeople for that location.

In reply to: [CongressLookup] Pre-written letter to congressmenI wanted to do the same thing as you are suggesting and that’s what first got me started on creating the CongressLookup plugin.
You can see for yourself by putting in some zip codes and looking at the results that very few (if any) congress people list email addresses because of how much spam they get. Instead they refer you to the contact form on their public website.
I considered creating a script that will autofill these contact forms… The problem is (1) it would have to be written for each individual contact form (over 400), AND (2) it would have to have a way to do the captcha security on the form (which is what spam bots try to do). Even if all that could be done, it would only work until (1) they changed their form, or (2) they got better captcha. IOW, it’s not worth the effort.
The other option is to do a petition that is delivered once after the signatures are collected.
If I have misunderstood what you are trying to accomplish, please let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate your needs.

In reply to: [CongressLookup] Couldn't find the address—Sunlight API activated alreadyWe have determined problem is related to the number of requests to Google Map per key per day. They place a limit on how many requests there can be. Apparently we are a victim of our own success… There are enough installations of CongressLookup now that we occasionally hit the limit on the provided key. We are working on adding an option to enter your own Google Maps API key and will include it in the next plugin update.

In reply to: [CongressLookup] Couldn't find the address—Sunlight API activated alreadyI’m sorry you are having this issue. If you have worked through our troubleshooting tasks (https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/congresslookup/other_notes/) and are still having an error then we’ll need to get into your site and see what is your particular issue. You can use the contact form on the official plugin website to send us more site-specific details so we can take the next steps in resolving your issue: http://congresslookup.com/contact-us/
@warrenvmyers We have been able to resolve the problem you were having on your site. There were two problems. One had to do with a configuration on the HostGator server you were on, which they have now corrected. The other is a conflict with another plugin which we are in the process of fixing and will update our plugin in the WordPress repository as soon as it’s done.
Thank you for your patience with us as we worked through these issues.
