    Altlvan,
We offer a tremendous amount of free functionality in the community edition of WPBackItUp so not really sure why you would call WPBackItUp garbage. I even spent time writing a post that oultines how to restore your site youself with the backups created by WPBackItUp. We also never email anyone unless they signup and of course you can unsubscribe at any time.

I have personally spent many hundreds of hours writing this plugin and helping people over the years, even when they have not purchased the premium plugin. If you have had a bad experience with my plugin, me, or my team then by all means post a review telling about your experience . But posting a review like yours doesn’t provide much value to the WordPress community. It actually hurts it because it discourages plugin authors from providing and supporting free plugings to the community.

    Brian,
Wish you would have contacted me in the support forum. There is an option in WPBackItUp to generate a single script that can be used in place of all the SQL files. Just need to turn it on and then can import the entire database with one file. We separate them out for each table because some databases are just too large to put in a single SQL file but we have an option to also generate the single file. Its easy to find because we use the .db extension vs .sql.

Sorry you had such a bad experience but next time reach out to these support forums and ask for help. Most of us plugin authors watch them and are happy to help.

    Take Care

    MisterR,
We use a unique backup prefix because there are a number of updates performed on the imported database just prior to bringing it online. Examples are customers migrating their site to a new domain or changing the table prefix. All of these type updates are performed on the tables with the unique prefix and then when all updates have been completed successfully, we rename the tables. If any of these steps cannot be performed then WPBackItUp will leave the original database as is. We know this causes some challenges for customers that want to perform manual restores but we decided that we would err on the side of safety.

Sorry it caused you difficulties, next time reach out to support. We are always available for questions and happy to help.

Yes WPBackItUp Lite(free) will backup all the tables in your database. They will be contained in the main zip file. When the backup is complete just download that file to your PC and take a look. They will all be there.

Yes you can do that. I am not exactly sure how you are using NAS but you could just download the backups and save them to your NAS device or, if your secondary WordPress install is using NAS for both files and database, then all would be safely stored on your NAS as well.

The best way to know for sure would be to give it a try. We have a 30 day no questions refund policy so if you run into any issues then we would be happy to refund your full purchase price.

    Thanks

    Thijs,
I understand you don’t like the price of the premium plugin but 1 star/crap seems a little unfair? If the backup did not work then please share your experience but if your issue is only with pricing for the premium plugin then would appreciate it if you would consider updating your review.

    Thanks Thijs

    tlivian,
Sorry but I have to disagree. We clearly state in the description that the restore feature is for the premium plugin only. I also spent a number of hours writing a post that tells you how to do it yourself if you prefer to not pay for the premium plugin.

    http://support.wpbackitup.com/support/solutions/articles/5000676459-how-to-manually-restore-your-wordpress-database

Additionally, we provide free support to lite(free) customers when they have questions or need help restoring their site manually. From my point of view this isn’t misleading and feel that we are providing a tremendous amount of value to the community for free.

Most of our customers actually purchase the premium plugin way before they need to restore because they love the product and want to support it. However, some customer do wait until they have an issue and then purchase, which is fine with us too. We feel like this is a benefit because it allows our lite customers to know that they have their site content backed up with a professionally developed and supported plugin for at no cost to them. And then if they ever do run into trouble and need to restore then they can either do it themselves or simply purchase the premium plugin, click one button and restore their site.

I know that you will probably not agree with anything I said but I suggest you try WPBackItUp out for yourself and then post your review here IF we somehow fall short on anything I have stated. I would also like to ask you to rate the product based on your experience with WPBackItUp not on your unhappiness with the cost of the premium plugin.

Thanks and good luck to you.

This is one of our most requested features so we are actively working on it now. I have the cloud storage engine slated for the 1.12.7 release which should be available this(3rd) quarter. With this release I will include either S3 or dropbox. Which would you like to see first S3 or dropbox? I actually have S3 pretty close but suspect dropbox will be more desired. Once this feature is added we will be able to add cloud storage providers fairly easily.

We are putting the finishing touched on 1.12.6 now and should release it in the next week or two. In 1.12.6 we will remove the table prefix restriction so you will be able to restore your site to any table prefix, not just the one your original site was using. This is also one of our most requested features so we wanted to get it out this summer.

    Thanks!

    master412160,
The current release does not yet have this feature. Please open a support ticket and someone from my support team will send you a link to a pre-release version of WPBackItUp that does this.

I would post it here but we like to make sure everyone installing a pre-release version is having a good experience.

    Thanks

    jgjh151,
I was able to get this working for you last night. Please create a support ticket using the link below and I will send you instructions on how to install a pre-release version of WPBackItUp that will contain a single SQL file with your entire database.

There is already an option for a single zip file. Take a look in settings. This option is fairly memory intensive so it may not work for you. Really just depends on your host and site size. If the setting is on the backup will attempt to stick all the zip files in a single zip. If it cant then the backup wont fail but WPBackItUp will just turn off the setting so it doesn’t keep trying on ever backup.

You can also change the Batch Size option for databases to a much larger number like 100000. This would tell WPBackItUp to export 100,000 rows to each SQL file so at least then you would only have 1 SQL file for every table. Not ideal but hopefully better. Give that a try and let me know if it helps. If the backup fails on Db export then your database is just too large and an export would likely fail even on a export using a MySQL tool.

Lastly, the single SQL file is possible for a small site and sounds like a good idea. As I said before, we separated it into multiple files because large sites would just timeout on the DB export. But adding the single SQL file as an option like single zip file backup is a good idea. May not work if your site is too big but you could at least try.

Lemme see what I can do. Will post something here after I review.

Sorry to hear you ran into trouble. Did you open up a ticket? this is very unusual so would like to see any logs that were produced.
