Not sure how I managed to miss that fairly obvious setting! In any case, I disabled the visual editor in 1.64 and Master Slider’s visual editor now works.

Indeed, once I realized what was going on I saw that I could still function w/both plugins on the frontend.
I will try disabling TinyMCE in Photonic and will advise

Apologies, but had a deadline to meet and I had to move on and try something else. I’ve switched from scrolling to static list. Appreciate your reply though.
@michal – Just a thought – make sure you’re using a text editor and NOT a word processor that might be throwing in formating or special characters.
