Did you check the option to remove the sidebar?
Appearance > Theme Options > Sidebar Display
This is a fabulously terrible idea. Even if this were possible, you could expect your site to be overrun by scriptbots within days. Akismet (and every other spam plugin) ignore anything from post authors, so that wouldn’t help, either.
This hack came about from the work of somebody I copied on the forum. Something happened between version 2.7 and 2.8 that changed…something…and now it doesn’t work.
What would be really nice would be if somebody could just add the option to use Custom Fields into the core, instead of my hacktackularly bad code.
