In reply to: [Ultimate Maps by Supsystic] Bing maps not workingNo solution. The Bing map didn’t display. Also there is no fullscreen option, so I changed to a different plugin.
Thanks, Hristo, for the quick and effective support. I switched off the CSS combination and minification front end options. Also javascript options. Problem solved.

In reply to: #.appears after URL. And unknown script insertedHi Brian. As far as I can tell, it happened whenever I used firefox – version 16.0.2 with foxlingo 2.7.8.
The code that got inserted into posts is the script that I quoted at the top of this discussion. You won’t see it in the post now because I’ve deleted it. The “hash” that’s concerning me is not in the post but in the URL: the #.UNLEQI1FDDc bit at the end of the post’s web address, and I don’t know how it got there, what it means or how to get rid of it.
In answer to your question (files v database), WordPress generates posts from a database, as I understand it.
Thanks for your investigations and any further enlightenment.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: #.appears after URL. And unknown script insertedBrian, I’m sure you’re on the right track. I use WordPress to add posts to my site difference-between.com, and I noticed that when adding/editing posts through Firefox (with Foxlingo extension) the foxlingo code got added to the post if I switched between visual and html entry modes. Now that I’m using a different computer and IE without foxlingo, this doesn’t happen any more.
My remaining problem is how to get rid of the hash etc at the end of the post addresses e.g. http://difference-between.com/english-language/kind-sort-and-type/#.UNLEQI1FDDc
This may be an unrelated issue of course – I don’t know. Any ideas on that?Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: #.appears after URL. And unknown script insertedI’ve just got a new computer, but yes I did have Foxlingo as a Firefox extension on the old one and I was using Firefox as my main browser.

In reply to: change page background colourSolved, I think. Your idea got me thinking from a different angle and I tried clearing my browser’s cache before saving changes, and this worked.

In reply to: change page background colourThanks for the suggestion, which I tried. No joy. The weird thing is that whatever changes I make to style.css, it has no effect – even after reactivating the theme.
To clarify, it’s the content background I’m trying to change i.e. the colour behind the text, not the colour behind the page.Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Posts not showing carriage returnI have the same problem. If you’ve figured it out by now, please let me know.

In reply to: more tag with prosenseThat works. However, “Read the Rest of this entry” now comes after all posts/exerpts, including short ones that don’t have anything more to read. Is there a way to make this solution apply only to longer posts? Or maybe add the link manually to individual posts?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: more tag with prosenseSounds like a good solution, but I can’t see any code in the linked text file.
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: more tag with prosenseThanks for the very clear explanation. I see the issue now. I can only have all the ‘read more’ links at the cost of increasing duplicate content.
Is there another way to add a link at the end of each exerpt, linking back to the full post – not to duplicate content?
If not, then, yes, I’d be grateful for the code you suggested, when you have time.
Thanks again.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: more tag with prosenseThanks for your help. But I don’t follow your reasoning WildBil2Me when you say the more tag would be redundant. If a visitor to my site clicks on a category and is taken to a page with a short post (or posts) with just a couple of sentences, how do they know it isn’t just a short post? There’s no indication that there’s more to read if there’s no “Read more…”? Surely that’s just where the more tag IS needed?
