Same problem, same work-around (which is not a solution).
Simply switch off the menu bar:
Go to settings, appearance, Profile Menu: Set “activate profile menu” to off.
done. No bar, no buttons.

Sorry, I found the solution.
The field function for Gender creates the choices for the radio-button field on its own, if you don’t fill them in and obviously google-translates standard fields.
After choosing edit, you can change the choices simply by typing the correct items in the list of values …
