Restricting the parent topic is no use. This item is entitled ‘Feature request’.
It seems like a no brainer new feature addition to me.
Providing a default content restriction setting by post type would save web developers a huge amount of manual effort.

The use case for this request is new posts on the bbPress forums plugin. Given the dynamic nature of forum posts there is no way to set the content restriction as a default.
Hence, for an unauthenticated user if they try to access a bbPress post via its URL they get a 404 error. What I need is a way to auto set the content restriction for all bbPress posts and replies so that an unauthenticated user is redirected to the login page, and that after login the process forwards onto the originally requested bbPress post.
Thank you for the feedback, but its not that. This is really about having a redirect for the topic display page when the page user is not authenticated
The problem is related to the Ultimate Member authentication functionality..
All of our semi static member only content (pages/posts) uses the Ultimate Member ‘content restrictions’ settings to redirect a user to the login page.
All of our bbPress forums are ‘private’ and can only be viewed by authenticated members.
The dynamic nature of forum topic postings means that it is not possible to assign the Ultimate Member content restrictions. What I really need is a way to auto assign the Ultimate Member content restriction settings once a bbPress post is created.
Any suggestions?
Having reviewed this overnight, the problem is caused by the fact that for all my other site assets (pages, posts) I am using the ‘Content restriction’ facility to redirect the unauthenticated user to the login page.
However, with forum posts, the dynamic nature of the content means that the content restriction settings cannote be applied in advance. Hence, the 404 error.
The answer would appear to be a requirement to auto set the topic content restrictions as and when the forum topic and/or reply is created.
Is there a way to do this?
That solved it
Is there anyway to post screenshots to your forum?
That option is already set to ‘No’
The button appears on the form but in a grey colour.
The ‘login’ form has a ‘Register’ button. How can I hide that?
I have not received a response to my question about why I need to inject a CSS fix to circumvent this problem
thanks for that…
However, I was thinking of having each event entry title being qualified with a ‘public’ or ‘members only’ suffix, like…
- Bird life in the Cambrians (members only)
- Walking the Cambrians (public)
Where do I insert this?
