it turns out that the problem was the url i was using: the ending should have been “feed=rss2”. it works well now 🙂

It seems there are a number of similar plugins that can do the trick. Does anyone have any experience on which one to choose?
it seems the more options you have, the harder it is to make a choice…so baed on what would you guys decide which plugin to use? honestly speaking, i consider ratings, but not in a way, that 4 stars is not better than 5…if a plugin is rated 2.5 stars or less, i do not check it out…it is my NOOB approach..
