How was this resolved? I’ve just encountered the same problem after updating from WP 3.7 to 4.1 — and using Sidebar Login 2.7.1.
How do you actvate jetpack through the database? I’m experiencing exact same problem.

I should add that the problem only occurs when using Default Page Template. Using Default Events Template works — but is full-width and not what we need.
