@databell96 Thanks for your reply. This error sometimes occurs on sites where the previously optimized data is invalid or when there is a plugin or theme conflict, so we’d recommend to first reset the optimization to ensure previously optimized data has been cleared.
To reset the optimization data, please perform the following steps:
- Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin
- Go to your WordPress admin dashboard > Tools (sidebar) > Yoast Test
- Locate the Yoast SEO section and click on the ‘Reset indexables tables & migrations’, ‘Reset Prominent words calculation’, and ‘Reset Internal link counter’ buttons. After each click, the page will reload to confirm that each reset was successful.
After removing any previously stored, next reattempt the data optimization. You can do this either with the ‘Start SEO data optimization’ function located in WordPress under Yoast SEO>Tools>Optimize SEO Data, or by using WP-CLI commands. WP-CLI requires terminal access to your site, and is the recommended method if you have a large site.
If the SEO data optimization doesn’t complete after the reset, we’ll need to gather information from your browser to determine the next steps. Please open your browser’s console and check for any JavaScript errors. If you’re not familiar with your browser console, we have a guide that will help: How to find JavaScript errors with your browser’s console
We have a list of known error codes here with recommended solutions. If the error is not listed or you have questions about the error, please provide us with a screenshot of the error.
@petrosp6 Thanks for your reply. Regarding your inquiry, the links below the search results are called Sitelinks, and Google selects them based on your site structure. Yoast SEO automatically adds all the necessary Schema needed to generate Sitelinks. So you won’t need to change anything from the plugin.
You could signal to Google which links you want to appear by using the following actions:
- Provide a clear structure for your website, using relevant internal links and anchor text that’s informative, compact, and avoids repetition. These guides explain more: Blog SEO: add and maintain categories on your blog and Clean the Site Structure
- Allow Google to crawl and index important pages within your site. Use Inspect any URL to check that they render correctly.
- Consider using noindex to remove pages you do not want to be shown in search results. This guide explains more: How Do I Noindex URLs?
- Be sure to resubmit your sitemap to Google, as it will encourage them to crawl your site and update the search index. This guide explains more: Submit Sitemap to Google
- You may also wish to contact Google for more information on how they decide which links appear by making a post on their forums.
@alexrwlp Thanks for your reply. We checked on your site and it looks like you are using Yoast SEO Premium.
If you have purchased SEO Premium you would need to contact us directly at [email protected] for assistance, as this forum is reserved for support of the free version of Yoast SEO as per the forum guidelines. Thanks for your understanding.
@shreiyavarun We’re sorry but we aren’t able to provide this level of support in the forums. These forums are dedicated to offering support for the plugin, but this unfortunately doesn’t include development support related to coding.
Since we don’t want to take the risk that we break your website by suggesting incorrect or incomplete code, we cannot advise you on how to make such changes. Maybe someone watching these forums can assist you further, but if your topic is inactive we’ll mark it as resolved to keep the overview. Thank you for your understanding.
@malawimama Thanks for your reply. We’re sorry to hear that you resolved by moving to another plugin, but we do understand.
We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved, but if you should need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to let us know.
@agencyequity We’re sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue on your site.
Can you please provide us with example URLs of the pages that you are receiving a warning related to duplicate meta descriptions on, so that we can advise you on the best way to resolve this?
For example, if you were receiving a warning of having a duplicate meta description/title on the paginated pages for a category, you can avoid having duplicate titles or meta descriptions by adding the
%page%variable to your page’s SEO Title and/or Meta Description. You can do so by going to Yoast SEO>Search Appearance>Taxonomies tab (or Content Types, etc) in your WordPress dashboard, and then adding the%page%template variable to the SEO Title and/or Meta Description defaults, and this would affect a change to all of that content type or taxonomy to which the variable was added. We also have more information on using template variables, and the variables available for use here: List of available snippet variables in Yoast SEO.

I tested both the staging and live URL in the WhatsApp debug application, and for me, neither preview image was appearing for me (see image here).
I tried both links in a different debug utility and noticed that it looked like the debug utility was finding valid URLs for the preview image links, but that something was preventing them from loading. Upon further inspection and according to the error I received, it looks like you may have a feature that prevents image hotlinking on your site (see image here).
Image hotlinking being disabled is typically configured in your hosting control panel (such as cPanel or something similar) and it’s purpose is to prevent bandwidth leeching from a site. When enabled it prevents other sites from loading images that are hosted on your site. So for example if I made an html page but for the image sources I used absolute URLs to images on your site, it would prevent them from loading. Can you please check in your hosting control panel to see whether you have image hotlinking disabled? If you don’t see a way to enable/disable it, it’s possible it’s enabled at a server level or might require contacting your hosting provider to disable it.

Can you confirm you are using WordPress 6.1.1? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider. Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/
If you update to the most current version of WordPress and Yoast SEO, does this resolve the issue?
If you have already confirmed that both Yoast SEO and WordPress are up to date and the issue is still occurring, we would next recommend performing a conflict check to determine whether another plugin or theme is interfering with the Yoast plugin.
The fastest way to do this is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like TwentyTwentyOne.
Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check without affecting normal visitors to your site.
If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts.
