In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Simple map of xmp field to custom fieldThanks for your question, and for posting the details of your mapping rule; very helpful.
Mapping from an XMP value in the “EXIF/Template” field is a bit tricky. You start with a “
template:” prefix and then a Content Template that draws from field-level data sources, e.g.,[+xmp:fwc.CustomField2+]. For your application try something liketemplate:([+xmp:fwc.CustomField2+])The parentheses are somewhat optional. They handle the case where an image doesn’t have a metadata value, returning an empty value. Without them the template would return “[+xmp:fwc.CustomField2+]” as a literal value.
Normally, you can see all of the metadata a file contains by opening the Media/Edit Media screen for an item and scrolling down to the “Attachment File Metadata” text box that MLA provides. You wrote “If I update my media, it strips all metadata from the file source“. Neither MLA nor WordPress will do this. It is done by the many “image optimization” plugins and some of the SEO plugins, normally at the end of the original upload process. If you are using a plugin like that you can temporarily disable it and upload an image to inspect its metadata. You can re-enable the plugin and delete the image if you don’t need it, or use the plugin’s optimization functions to process the image.
I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems or further questions regarding the above suggestions. If you can tell me the optimization plugin you are using I may be able to give you more specific help with that. Thanks for your interest in MLA.

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Media tab empty due to MLAThank you for your report. I haven’t changed any MLA code or feature that might affect the Media admin tab recently and I cannot reproduce your symptoms on my system. I’d like to start by getting more information to investigate further.
There are two pieces of information that would be helpful. Both of them are best handled by copying information to a text file and sending the file(s) by email. You can contact me at my web site to send the files by email.
First, can you share all or part of your site information?
- Navigate to the Site Health admin page.
- Select the Info tab.
- Click “Copy site info to clipboard”.
- Paste the clipboard content into a text file. Feel free to edit the information to remove any information you don’t want to share.
Second, can you find and share anything from your site’s error log that might be related to the issue? You can probably use MLA’s Settings/Media Library Assistant Debug tab for this
- Navigate to the Settings/Media Library Assistant Debug tab.
- Scroll down to the “Error Log” text box and see if the log information is present.
- Scroll to the bottom and click “Download” to get the log content in a text file.
If the log file isn’t visible in the Debug tab you may have some other way of accessing the log; check with the site hosting provider.
Finally, you can have a look at some MLA options.
- Navigate to the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab.
- Scroll down to the “Media/Assistant Screen Options” section.
- If the “Submenu Order” box has a non-zero entry, delete it or set it to zero.
- Scroll to the bottom and click “Save Changes” to record the new setting.
That’s the only option I can think of which manipulates the Media menu tab.
I will leave this topic unresolved and I hope to hear from you soon with more information. Thanks for your help, your patience and for your interest in the plugin.

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Duplication of information on backendThank you for your report. The page you link to is for your site’s front end but I have done some testing and identified some problems with the Media Manager Modal (popup) window screens that include the toolbar/search UI. I will investigate further and post an update when I have progress to report.
In the interim, you can avoid the problem without disabling MLA entirely:
- Go to the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab.
- Scroll down to the “Media/Add New Enhancements” section.
- Uncheck the box for the “Enable Media Manager Enhancements” option.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click “Save Changes” to record the new setting.
The Media Library Grid View seems to be working fine, so there’s no need to disable that option.
Thank you for your report. I don’t see the screenshot you mentioned in your post, and the missing images problem doesn’t occur on my system. However, I have done some testing and identified some problems with the “Featured Image” and other Media Manager Modal (popup) window screens. I will investigate further and post an update when I have progress to report.
If you can send your screenshot by email, please contact me at my web site.

Thanks for your response and for your consideration of my proposal. I look forward to working with you when the time is right. In fact, it looks like this has come up before:

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Upoaded to Folder via uploaded Post Type….Further investigation suggests that you might be inquiring about MLA’s support for the Folders plugin. I regret that the current MLA version does not support that plugin, although MLA does support the Real Media Library and CatFolders plugins; that might interest you.
I have opened a topic in the Folders Support Forum to see if they are interested in adding MLA support: Add Folders plugin support to Media Library Assistant | ww.wp.xz.cn. I hope that a future MLA version will include Folders support. Thanks for helping me discover the Folders plugin.
Thanks for the kind words regarding MLA, for your report and for the time you took to investigate the problem and detail your findings; much appreciated. You have encountered a defect I introduced in the update to MLA v3.36.
I have released MLA v3.37, which corrects the problem and contains two other fixes. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems or further questions regarding the fix for this topic. Thanks for alerting me to the issue and for your interest in the plugin.

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] In combination with the WP/LR Sync pluginThanks for your interest in the plugin and for your question. MLA has supported WP/LR Sync for years and many MLA users rely on it. I am committed to the combination and will address any issues you encounter to the best of my ability.
I am marking this topic resolved but please post an update if you have problems or further questions regarding the combination of MLA and WP/LR Sync.

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] PDF Featured ImageI have released MLA v3.36, which contains the fix for this issue. I am marking this topic resolved, but please let me know if you have any trouble with the new release. Thanks again for alerting me to the problem.
Thanks for your question and for the details of your issue. I had another look at the pull-down Help content and I agree that it’s not as helpful as it could be. The relevant content is :
You can update the Title, Caption, Description and ALT Text values for all of the selected attachments. You can use a Content Template to customize the values based on attachment-specific data sources. You can also delete the content of a field by entering the special
template:[+empty+]value. The key part of the content is the “
template:[+empty+]” hint. You can accomplish your goal by adding the “template:” prefix to your value, i.e., “template:My Title [+reverse_index+]“. Based on your experience I will be adding more clarification and examples to the Help content in my next release.I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems or further questions regarding the above suggestions. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for your interest in the plugin.

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Upoaded to Folder via uploaded Post Type….Thanks for your question, but I am not sure I understand what you are asking.
You wrote “uploading images to a Post Type“. Do you mean a custom post type other than posts or pages?
You asked “will it automatically assign the image to the correct folder“. Do you mean the correct
year/monthfolder within the Uploads folder?MLA uses the core WordPress logic to handle uploads, so the results should be the same with or without MLA being active. If you are having a problem with uploads, can you give me more details about your application so I can investigate further?
I will leave this topic unresolved for now, and hope to see an update from you soon. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Image metadataThanks for your clarifying comments and for the kind words regarding the plugin. As you discovered, MLA does not have any features that alter the files attached to Media Library Items.
Yes, you could write a Custom Field mapping rule that adds Copyright information to the Media Library items. If you decide to pursue that and have problems or questions, start a new topic and I’ll help in any I can. I wish you every success with your site.

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Image metadataThanks for your update. You wrote “I used an image optimizer to strip everything first.” Once the image is optimized, all of the metadata is lost. You can confirm that by going to the Edit Media screen and looking through the “Attachment File Metadata” text area.
You mentioned the empty
image_metaarray. Erasing it wouldn’t save you much – it’s better to just ignore it.If the “Attachment File Metadata” text area shows that the images still contain information like description or copyright, I can help you map that to WordPress variables or Custom Field content. However, with the image optimizer that’s not very likely.
I am marking this topic resolved because I don’t think there’s more I can do, but please post an update if you need more help with this topic. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Image metadataThanks for your question. It looks like you are trying to compose one or more IPTC/EXIF/WP or perhaps Custom Field mapping rules; is that right? If so, it would be helpful to have more details of the rules you’ve tried so I can offer more specific advice. If you can post a link to some of the images you are using I can look through their metadata and see what they have available.
EXIF and IPTC metadata have a variety of sources for this information. For example, I have an image with descriptions in IPTC 2#105 (headline), IPTC 2#120 (caption-or-abstract) and EXIF “ImageDescription”. A different image uses IPTC 2#005 (object-name), IPTC 2#120 and XMP “description”. You can see which fields contain the information you want by clicking the “Edit” rollover action to access the full-screen Edit Media page and scrolling down to the Attachment File Metadata text area.
If you haven’t already found it, you can read through the Metadata Mapping with MLA PDF document on my web site.
I hope that gives you more ideas for your application. I will leave this topic unresolved for now, and I welcome any further details you can provide. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.
