One more update: Raam Dev, the support plug-ins you recommended above were a huge help to working out my problems! I actually used Easy WP SMTP because it’s been updated more recently. http://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/view/plugin-reviews/easy-wp-smtp Sending email notifications through my own SMTP server fixed the problem of commenters not getting notifications.
One other little hang-up I discovered had something to do with me trying to respond to commenters directly from the post on my blog. If I was already logged into WP, it seems that notifications weren’t sent, to me or anyone who had subscribed. I discovered that if I replied directly within the comments page of my dashboard, the notifications went out as they should. Not sure what to make of that.
Thank you so much for your help, and for providing a fix to the plug-in. I’m really happy with it!
Thanks, Raam Dev. I’ve installed the “Email Log” plugin and will see what I discover with that.
It turns out that the majority of my readers who subscribed to replies have not received a notification of my reply to them. When you recommend the “WP-Mail_SMTP” plugin, are you suggesting that the notifications are getting spammed? I know that when I send a notification of my response through my personal email address, my readers generally receive them, so it makes sense to try a plugin that would send notifications the same way.
One other thing I wonder: I turned off the “enable double check” option because I was hoping subscribers could subscribe by simply checking a box, and not having to respond to a confirmation email. Do you think that the confirmation email might be more likely to make it into their inbox? I’m guessing that the answer is no, and that sending any notifications via SMTP is more likely to be effective.
I appreciate your help with this. I would love to have this plugin work for me.
I’m disappointed to discover that this plug-in only seems to work spottily. I have several friends who are helping me test it, and while a few have received the notifications they’ve subscribed to, it seems that even more have not. I’ve checked the “Manage Subscriptions” page and have confirmed that they’ve subscribed correctly.
Also, as administrator, I’m only receiving notifications to about half of the new comments. (I have this same problem with the notifications I should get directly from WordPress. Interestingly, the missing notifications from this plug-in are the same ones that don’t come in from WordPress; I either get both or neither.)
I also personally subscribed to all from a different email address, and am not getting notifications for most comments.
I was really hoping this would work. Looks like I’ll go back to sending notification emails to commenters by hand.
Thanks so much, Raam Dev! I had almost given up on this plugin working, and it’s the only one that has everything I’m looking for.
I was able to get to the settings this time without hitting a 404 page. I’ll be testing it later to make sure it works the way I need it to.
Many thanks!
I’m having the same issue as BeautyPirate. I have removed the original version and installed the fix. But now I just get a 404 page. (I did this yesterday, and can’t remember if the 404 came up when I tried to activate the revised plugin, or when I tried to get to the settings after activation. I think the latter.)
