I did not read the postings by TG and others asking that this topic be dropped. If Gmail, a service of Google, has problems, and they refuse to deal with the problems, but continue to tell people how great their service is, I think people should complain about that in forums like this. Why else do you think there are so many forums on cyberspace?
I hate Gmail because it lost my email. I had a couple of emails and one day they were gone. Then I wanted to share this experience in the Help Discussion forum, posted a reply to another person who complained about the same thing, but my posting does not show. Then I looked at the topic record, and found that there were no more posting after a certain day in March this year. Maybe Gmail was overwhelmed by the complaints, and just rejected all further complaints.
