Quick update, I figured out by turning Optimize Press 2.0 Settings/SEO on I was able to at least get some meta data on the page. However, the SEO Check link does not produce any result.
OP 2 on page help link says to turn their SEO off if you are using another SEO plugin. It just seems like the two aren’t talking to each other.
DennisI’m a WordPress newbie not a developer and greatly appreciate some help in plain English. I’ve got an urgent deadline to get my initial Youtube channel video posted as an imbedded video player.
I think Alex’s plugin is what I need after searching and trying several others with no luck to get it to show up or even how to find it after installation.
I’ve installed this, clicked on activate. I see Video quicktags listed in settings. I’ve kept all the default settings.
However, I can’t find how to get it started, or where to find the screenshots I see on his site to select how the actual url video post appears. Here are my specific for your background:
1) YouTube URL link: http://youtu.be/cikPUmoyFf0. That’s why this post caught my eye but unsure what/how the shortcode vs. longcode choice is accessed and what it means?I don’t think I can change my URL’s as suggested because they are generated by Youtube after you upload.
2) I am using the Graphene Theme. Perhaps there’s a master coding change that needs to be done. It’s strange that none of the post popular and easy to use Video play plugins I’ve tried don’t get recognized. There’s got to be something wrong with my theme.
3) I’m currently trying to imbed a video on a static page, not a post, not a sidepbar.
4) Can I select which image shows up on the thumbnail? If not, can you recommend a video player plug in that will meet the above requirements?
Many many thanks!
Dennis
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Messed up URL, Can't get to the DashboardThank you. Thankfully, your tip, itspmm, lead me to my GoDaddy Domain Servers where the awesome GoDaddy tech support help desk walked me through this easy restore procedure…
http://support.godaddy.com/help/5712/fixing-a-broken-wordpress-installationI checked out the jobs page, WPyogi, and had my reservations due to the prior seeker’s comments and length of time of the postings. Since I learned (again) I need a trained and experienced human to talk me through the tougher learning blocks I registered at http://www.odesk.com for free lance help. Within minutes I have 18 candidates to screen for future help. Again I just need a trusted bullpen to rely on when I’m in a jam.
I can now do a proper screening with the pressure off (for now)
I’ll come back to this post if odesk.com isn’t working for me.
p.s. Given the HUGE number of identical problems posted in these forums and on the internet should there not be a LARGE WARNING SIGN on the settings page about changing your url? Newbies like me are lulled into complacency as you can change just about anything in WordPress as you poke about your learning and get out of any problem.
But when you lose access to your whole site?! Yikes! That puts you in a troubleshooting arena that is way out of your league as a WP Newbie.
As an example my call to Go Daddy wasn’t to get a fix it was to find out more about their web product. I planned to drop WPress since I had no control to fix the urgent problem. Instead when I mentioned my vexing WPress problem the Go Daddy support guy actually wanted to help me (I don’t think they are supposed to help on 3rd party apps like WP.) in less than 5 minutes we had the whole thing corrected and I was back on line!
Huge lessons learned in this 24 hour crisis and am looking forward to building my series of WP sites again.
Thanks to you both.
