This look to me to be a small problem. I am prepared to work with you to fix it. This problem must have started when you added the capability to detect serialised fields.
I have exactly a similar problem as this
Text field where it imports the text Apple (for example) as [“Apple”]. It seems as it is treating it as an array with one item in it instead of a regular string.
