I had the same problem. Turns out that I needed a server-side up-date as well! Do an upgrade on the server side and everything will be fine. My hosting provider installed a patch for the 3.4.2 upgrade. (I wish someone would have told me this before hand.)
So don’t panic or spend a lot of time trying to fix it, both of which I did. Just go to your hosting account and there should be a server side upgrade available.
Seems that a server side issue caused my problems. A patch had to be installed on the server side with this WP upgrade. All is well now. Thanks for the help.
