Check your firewall settings. I changed mine and I can now upload photos.
OK, I fixed mine…. clicked off plugins until the add product feature worked. For mine it was a visual layout plugin – Ultimate Addons for Visual Composer

I’m having this problem too. I can set to categories but not individual products. The solution I came up with – until hopefully we get an answer – is to add the products on special to an additional category.
