My god. I was so confused…turns out I was actually using a different plugin, one that is branded very similarly to yours…which Is why this message may have seemed strange. Now that I realize your plugin exists, it solves all my problems!
I do have one question, though–in terms of customizing the shortcode, I tried adding the “url” code to target a specific page, but it did not work. How is the code for that supposed to appear in the shortcode? I thought I knew, but since it did not work, I must be missing something.
Thank you for your help!
Here is a screenshot that should hopefully explain everything clearly–thx!

Ok. I uninstalled and reinstalled nextgen, but the problem persists. I could try repeating this step while no other plugins are active, but since I already deactivated them and saw this problem without uninstalling/reinstalling, i don’t know if that would be likely to have much effect. Any ideas?
Ok–right on–thanks for confirming that. I’ll let you know soon as I test that!

In reply to: [Facebook Comments] total likes/comments not being counted by facebookI don’t believe it effects the count on facebook itself–each like/comment should be counted there…it just effects the total count for the url you’re sharing. Not sure if that’s what you’re asking…

In reply to: [Facebook Comments] total likes/comments not being counted by facebookWell, the documentation for the mirroring feature does note that mirroring only works for newly published articles, so that’s that. (here’s the link, if you didn’t know about it:
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/comments)
The notes on mirroring are near the bottom; I recommend searching for ‘mirror’ on the page.I’ve no solution to the count problem…though, there is one super-imperfect alternative, if you’re not concerned about a 100% accurate count, and simply want to show traffic for your link…
I already knew that if I boosted a post with certain parameters, I’d get a ton of likes…and while it’s a little bit like empty calories, it does make the counter tick up, which, in the short run, was what I needed. So, given this mirroring problem, my solution was to create a new facebook ‘Page’…since it would not be associated with the comments tool, sharing my url there would not be associated with the mirror breakdown…and then i simply boosted that post. I’m not intending to drive traffic to that other page…simply increase the like count of my website post/link…which worked like a charm. So, maybe that option would work for you?
ThemeSumo,
Exactly. So the question marks are invisible unless I copy the tags (from the quick edit page), and then paste them in the plain text editor, where they become immediately visible. Deleting those tags does clear it out, though. Typing the tag in fresh did not reproduce the problem…and, subsequently, pasting clean text is also working fine.
The ultimate mystery is how it got there to begin with. All I can think is I must have copied/pasted the text from some source with hidden code in it…and apparently the tag entry system is not a plain text system, which i never would have guessed.
What gets me is the very idiosyncratic way it messed with the site. very weird.
Thanks again for putting extra eyes on it–it’s helpful knowing someone else is looking at it, just as confused…and that I’m not crazy or stupid!
That did it. I rule.
Wish I understood how that got screwed up in the first place. What an anomaly!
Ok…I solved it…but it revealed another, baffling issue.
So, get this…it had to do with the tags I added to the article. Apparently, for some of my tags, even though it’s not visible unless you copy and paste those tags from wordpress into a plain text editor, for some reason wordpress is adding question marks before and after certain tags…and that’s what’s introducing this weird aberration with the blockquotes. Go figure.
It appears that specific tags are always going to generate question marks. My next test is going to be to see if I can eliminate a given tag from the site entirely, and then type it in fresh. If that doesn’t work, I would think that means there’s some deeper issue with the way tags are getting generated…which is a problem moving forward.
Ok…first I actually tried just copy/pasting the entire code for the post into that test post I mentioned…and lo and behold, it’s perfect. How is that possible? The only differences I can think of would be things like tags/categories/featured image or turning off/on certain other options for the post. This is so mind-numbingly obscure.
I appreciate you taking a look at it. To answer your question, I’m just doing normal copy/cut/paste/type when inserting the text. If need be, I dig into the code. Images are either loaded from the library, or I copy the image where it’s at and paste it; depends on the circumstances.
Here’s another interesting factor…I finally created a fresh, test post…using the exact same code for one of the blockquotes, and it’s working just fine…
…which leads me to think that somehow it’s some random thing in the post that came from one of the unrelated, minor edits which I made to it a while back…after which I didn’t bother reviewing the post in it’s entirety. I’m coming to accept that buggy things like this happen sometime with wordpress and all it’s bells and whistles. It sucks, but the only workaround I can think of–given this–is to revert to a working version after taking note of the changes in-between…then add them back in, carefully, and see what happens.
I’m gonna’ go through my revisions this morning and see if I can pin it down.
thx!
Thank you for such a quick and clear response–sometimes I never even hear back from developers.
I’ll still test it all out, but I’m wondering, is this feature triggered specifically by seeing the same email input, or does it recognize subscribers if any data entered is duplicated, such as the same first & last name?
Since there can be more than one subscriber with the same name, one wouldn’t want to overwrite an existing subscriber…
…and if someone enters the same email, changing ones [user] name seems like it’d be rare, if at all. I’m guessing this feature is something that probably makes sense if a site is collecting more information from people than just their name or email.
If you can shed any more light on how this operates, that would be awesome. Thx!

In reply to: [Facebook Comments] total likes/comments not being counted by facebookBTW, I’ve hunted all over and can find no solution, as yet…though I’ve found at least one source that does indicate that all comments/likes via the facebook comments plugins should be being counted/tracked…so unless this is wrong I’m really eager to bridge the gap.
