In reply to: NO error message, but unable to log into dashboard after 4.0 updateAwesome. Thanx so much. I deleted like 24,000 spam comments plus two development sites unused plug ins and themes so I bet there was a ton of space freed up. Really appreciate your help. This is great info.

In reply to: NO error message, but unable to log into dashboard after 4.0 update@macmanx – I just wanted to say thank you for your help. This morning my db problem was fixed and I went into myadmin and optimized the tables. If you have time, could you let me know exactly what that means? Is it something I should do on a regular basis? Either way I was able to add things to my calendar now so I guess I will try and do the update again now. Fingers crossed!

In reply to: NO error message, but unable to log into dashboard after 4.0 updateok great! glad that makes sense to you. i will try that in the morning. i keep reading about tables and i’m not certain what they are but i will try and learn tomorrow. 🙂 I did see a button called phpadmin in my host’s control panel so i will investigate tomorrow. I’ve been dealing with this for the past 13 hours. i need a break.

In reply to: NO error message, but unable to log into dashboard after 4.0 updateI had more than one version of the blog pointed at the same database. i was using it to redesign a few months ago and never deleted it so maybe that’s why it was so full. i will check back in the morning. fingers crossed. i was/am at -50MB available storage space

In reply to: NO error message, but unable to log into dashboard after 4.0 updatecorrect. i changed the name of just the theme i am currently using — that folder, not the ‘themes’ folder. I was able to get back in the back end by rolling back to the previous version via a backup.
I realized in visiting my hosting site that my database for my blog was at a negative capacity. i think that may be contributing to the problem. The initial reason i did the 4.0 update is because i was getting an error trying to add a new item to my gigpress calendar. i thought maybe i should check for an update and before i did that i saw that WP had an update so i did that first and that’s when it kicked me out of the dashboard.
Once i went back to the previous WP version and I went back into the calendar plugin and tried to add it again, I actually read thru the error it referenced the database. perhaps just one more thing could not fit on the server. i don’t know. i’m currently clearing some space to see if that helps to resolve things as i was not getting an actual login error. if i can reduce the db size i will try to add something to the plugin again and maybe manually do the 4.0 upgrade again to see if it works.
grasping at straws but at least i know i can get back into my site if i revert back again. Does any of this sound feasible to you as to why i might be having a problem?

In reply to: Can't Login After Automatic 4.0 UpgradeThank you. i disabled the plug-ins but that didn’t work so I enabled them again and I do have twentyfourteen installed. If all i was supposed to do to get it to appear is change the name of my current theme folder, then that did not work either and I am still not able to log in. It just made the screen blank and nothing appears on any of my pages at all.
I did start my own thread for this: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/no-error-message-but-unable-to-log-into-dashboard-after-40-update?replies=1#post-6147759
re: the login page. I am not getting an error message when I try to log in, it’s just that nothing happens.
When i try to login into: http://www.erinjackson.net/blog/wp-login.php and then when i enter my info and click the login button the address turns into: http://www.erinjackson.net/blog/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.erinjackson.net%2Fblog%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1
Is that indicative or anything or was it always that way and I just didn’t notice?

In reply to: NO error message, but unable to log into dashboard after 4.0 updateThank you so much for your quick reply @crammy90.
That did not work for me but does it mean anything that i try to login into: http://www.erinjackson.net/blog/wp-login.php and then when i enter my info and click the login button the address turns into: http://www.erinjackson.net/blog/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.erinjackson.net%2Fblog%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

In reply to: Can't Login After Automatic 4.0 UpgradeThank you so much for your quick reply. I think that i have done everything except disabling plug ins. how do i do that from the ftp? I see that the original poster did it but no instructions as to how. Also as I stated above i renamed my current theme — i just added a 1 to it — but no new theme took over so i don’t know how to determine if that was the problem. If you could stay with me just a bit longer and maybe explain those two things?

In reply to: Can't Login After Automatic 4.0 UpgradeI’m wondering if it could be theme compatibility like i saw suggested on another thread. Earlier i went into my ftp and renamed my theme but the default didnt take over. it just rendered a white page and i still wasn’t able to log in so i changed it back so at least my site was still up. Again any help is appreciated. I’ve tried to do my research and follow the recommendations on several threads before posting myself.

In reply to: Can't Login After Automatic 4.0 UpgradeI am also unable to log into the Control Panel after the auto update. I am not getting an error when I attempt to login but when I enter the username and PW to my back end it just doesn’t go anywhere. It’s like a loop that redirects back to right where it is.
So far I have deleted everything on the root level except the ‘wp-config’ file and i deleted the admin and includes folders and replaced them with the 4.0 files. Is there any assistance anyone can give me? my site address is ‘erinjackson.net’ Any help is greatly appreciated.

In reply to: Installing WP 3.0.4 on new domain. Config Problems, Please helpGosh… I’m not sure what you mean here.
I do now see further down in the config file where it says $table_prefix = ‘wp_’;’
How do I find the permission on the ihopeyoudontmake it? Value 755? Is that the number youre inquiring about? Also I’m not sure what the last question is? So sorry.
What should I change the prefix to?
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Installing WP 3.0.4 on new domain. Config Problems, Please helpIt is directed to that folder.
Where would I find the prefix(es)? I’ve set up several blogs and never dealt with this.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Installing WP 3.0.4 on new domain. Config Problems, Please helpThank you so much for your quick reply. I do have a folder on my server on the same level as my ‘www’ folder called ‘ihopeyoudontmakeit’
I have uploaded the blog files to there, but in order to complete the installation the WP read me tells me to pull up: http://www.ihopeyoudontmakeit.com/wp-admin/install.php
I’m not sure what it means to use another prefix for my database tables. Would you mind explaining that? Or directing me to a place where I can learn more. So frustrating, i’ve been at this since this morning.
Again, I appreciate your help!
