I used something a bit like this to add a border-left-width: 6px; to the a.link (hope this makes sense), which gave me a coloured bar to the left of the event block when displaying the calendar. I just can’t work out how you get a color that’s darker than the colour the plugin uses rather than always getting the theme accent color.
