OK, I obviously did not phrase my question properly. Let me try again.

Specifically when I try to enter a formatted table into a page post and I save it part of the xhtml that I entered is deleted. Also sometimes a tag <pre> is inserted. For instance if I try to enter the following

    <caption>This is a caption</caption>

it will be removed from my post after a save.

Also in I try to add the <tbody> </tbody> pair they will also be removed.

In short WordPress is making some decisions about my code and deciding to delete over which I have no apparent control.

What I am asking is how do I prevent this from taking place.

Also I do not understand your recommendations re Frontpage.

Ok, I am sorry for misunderstanding your earlier question. I just didn’t take it as a question.

But I went back and checked and my permissions for the wp-content directory were 755. I then changed the permissions for this directory and all sub directories to 777. All of my problems then went away and I had no problem uploading images.

Is this a bad/good solution? Is there a problem that I have caused by doing so? I see what seem to me to be conflicting opinions on this question. I am not smart enough to sort it out.

    Thanks for your kind help!

No I have not tried a search for the web server here. I just added the blog to a long standing server that I have been using for years (dynamicnet.net). I was able to install WordPress without any problems and was able to generate a sample post, but when I tried to upload an image that is when I had the stated problem.

What can I look for here to solve this problem. If not solved, then of course WordPress for we would not work. I dearly would like to get some resolution and I am sure that there must be one for I cannot believe that my situation is unique.

    Thanks for your help.
