In reply to: Cannot add image or link, and icons showing only as squares.Update:
I’m not sure why this worked, but it did. I was preparing to reinstall wordpress with bluehost in my cpanel. I opened up my installation in bluehost, but I realized I needed to deactivate all my plugins. I did this once before, or so I thought.
I selected them all with the top check box, and bulk deactivated them. Immediately the problem went away. So, I reactivated the plugins one at a time. They are now all reactivated, but with no problem I’m not sure why the bulk activation I had done before was harmful, but it was.
So the solution was to deactivate all the plugins, then reactivate them one at a time.

I have backed up everything. Should I try a reset again?

In reply to: Cannot add image or link, and icons showing only as squares.I have also noticed, when I start a new post or page, the title bar is missing (rather it is behind the buttons that are for switching editor views), and the editor views are visual, text, and page editor. The visual and text options are buttons as they are supposed to be, but the page editor is hyperlink text rather than a button. I’m not sure if that helps diagnose anything, but it could.

In reply to: Cannot add image or link, and icons showing only as squares. Thanks bdbrown! I understand what you’re saying. The confusion is my fault, I only mentioned the theme because that’s how I started using the two plugins I mentioned.
I do not think the problem is theme specific for three reasons:
1) I have seen others with different themes who have my same problem, but I have yet to find a solution. Usually it ends with a problem with the Google Maps plugin, which I deactivated, but to no avail.
2) The missing icons are on wordpress, and were missing before I installed the theme.
3) I have tried switching to the twenty-sixteen theme, but the problem persists.
So whatever is happening is not due to the theme, but wordpress itself. I’m not sure what else to try. I have contacted my theme creators, and they seem to think it is a wordpress issue as well, but are trying to walk me through some suggestions. I’ll let you know what they suggest as I try.
