I have a similar problem, which immediately manifested after upgrading to WP 4.7.3. Did your problem also start after upgrading?

In addition: we have other WordPress network sites running here. As long as WordPress support doesn’t repair this, we will not upgrade these to 4.7.3!

Nope, the issue that I reported is something different.
The overarching ‘motherblog’ is still there and operational. However, all underlying network sites have disappeared. The dashboard doesn’t show them anymore, plus that in the wp-config.php file, all network site setting have been erased:

I find a kind of sad, that WordPress support shines by absence, from the mment that I reported this…
