I just realized this. I was confused because I had some other old images with similar names, so I thought they were the ones I was replacing, but they were different. It does indeed delete the originals!

I figured it out. I strongly suggest that you tell new users like me that a big letter G will appear AT THE TOP of their wordpress desktop instead of at the bottom where all my other added plugins control panels appear. You’d save us a lot of time and headache.
