Same here, black screen when I try to upload a photo.
That’s not working for me either.
Input labels work perfectly, but placeholders not.

You need to override the rule.
The easiest way is using the customize option on appearance menu.
There’s a ‘customizing css’ tab where you can override all the css rules you want.
Just put the code proposed by the author on that box.
