Well it appears the conflict is related to using ‘Dave’s WordPress Live Search’ (v 1.7). Upon deactivating this plugin, the Translate link behaves as expected.
I don’t understand why the two plug-ins worked fine side by side for several days, and randomly started conflicting.
I’ll look for another ‘live search’ plug-in to test, and I’ll report anything I can figure out.
