the /etc/php7/apache2/php.ini file was deleted and the file used on the update was missing the line
extension=mysqli
It is now resolved.
Upgradeing to 4.4 and aprox 33 plugins resolved it
I had imported for weeks. It suddenly stopped working. I have tried different themes with the same result. The frustrating part is I have the exact same plugins and themes on 5 other sites that do not have the problem. This started about 2 weeks ago. Thanks I will. I have wiped site and started over twice. First few work then suddenly it nolonger takes any XML upload.
