Sorry, I got it to work by adding the same name for slider and for the category, even though there is no category set up.
[promoslider slider=”slider” category=”slider” width=”960px” height=”470px”]

I am having this problem as well, but I can’t figure out how to use the category tag. Do I need to have made a post with a thumbnail to get this to work? When I use the category tag the page go blank…
