Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: No categories in Gutenberg sidebarI did some digging and turns out that NGINX (the web server that I use as it is faster than Apache) does not like any other permalink structure other than “plain”. Switching the permalink structure to plain brought back the categories! Marking the thread as solved.
That being said, there’s something to be said compatibility-wise; nginx is a web server gaining popularity rapidly and if this is an issue on either side it would be good to look into that. I can provide any troubleshooting info if need be!
Anyhow, thank you for your help!

In reply to: No categories in Gutenberg sidebarIn “Site Health” the following is reported:
The REST API did not behave correctly. The REST API is one way WordPress, and other applications, communicate with the server. One example is the block editor screen, which relies on this to display, and save, your posts and pages. The REST API did not process the context query parameter correctly.I did a quick google and turns out people think this is to be ignored, but could this be of note for my situation by any chance?
Any more ideas on your end? I’m working on a website for a client and this issue is currently seriously halting my progress…

In reply to: No categories in Gutenberg sidebarHi,
Would it be the same phenomenon in another browser?
For the Chrome browser, try turning off browser extensions or clearing the browser’s cache.Yes, same thing in chrome and safari (I use Firefox).
That’s really, really weird. Can you give me a link to the post you’re looking at on your site?

In reply to: No categories in Gutenberg sidebarIt gets weirder: there’s options missing.

And, preferences was not found in the bottom of the right sidebar (also missing?), but rather in the dropdown ‘cog’ menu up top.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: No categories in Gutenberg sidebarThe default one. Twentytwenty it’s called I believe. It truly is a bare metal WordPress installation without any modifications whatsoever installed from the latest package.

In reply to: No categories in Gutenberg sidebarYes, no difference. Although as far as I know even without any added categories the item should appear in the right-hand sidebar.

In reply to: No categories in Gutenberg sidebarI did in fact create a clean install, no plugins or custom code whatsoever, I failed to mention that. Still no categories in a completely vanilla install.

In reply to: No categories in Gutenberg sidebarI tested it in multiple browser, no change, and the console does not report any issues, neither does enabling wp-debug.
