In reply to: Ads on site appear only when typing certain URLthank you, thank you, thank you, iridiax
I think I made it, finally! please go one more time to http://livewithagoldenretrieverchowmix.com and have a look. I can now see the ads on top, just as I expect them. I know all this might still look kind of dilettantic, BUT for the first time I made it.
This time I didn’t use cPanel, I used the theme editor on wp-admin and found out that this is MUCH easier. And I copied the code into the page.php. I think it would also have worked using cPanel, but I dont’ care anymore. Now I can get peace of mind.
Though I still don’t understand why it won’t say anymore “1 Approved” on the page’s page, but maybe that solves itself soon (at least I hope so, as I don’t have time anymore to figure that out.)
You telling me to use the Theme Editor was the key for me to finally read carefully what you were saying.
Thanks again, very much.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Ads on site appear only when typing certain URLThank you iridiax. I took your advice and installed the plugin Adsense Manager. I could easily create an ad and made it my default ad to show on all pages. The result was still the same: The ad only shows when using the long link including the html file. However, there is another difference in the sites: Using the short link (without the html file) it still doesn’t show the ads, but it shows all pages I created. Using the long link, it shows the ad on top (a smaller one than before), but it shows only my home page and not the others I created on the right-hand side.
Today I opened the index.php in my theme folder. It’s in public_html/wp-content/themes/default (that’s my theme as I don’t want to use another. You see how stupid I am *sigh*). So I copied it into a ‘index-saved.php’ not to lose the original. Then I copied the Ad code into the index.php, and the result is still the same as described. I did all htis using the hostgaor file manager, the cPanel. If I only knew what I am doing wrong.
Also, as I stated in my first question, I had one (1) approved page before. Then made a change – and I admit I don’t remember what it was exactly – and now have zero (0) approved, for days already. How is that possible? What the heck did I do???
Any ideas? Can anybody help? I will be for ever thankful :). I have only two days to work on my site, then it’s off to a major surgery, and no computer for quite a while. I’m going to have withdrawal symptoms.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Ads on site appear only when typing certain URLThank you, iridiax, for responding.
I certainly did it wrong. I opened the source from my home page, saved it on my hard drive, copied the adsense code into it between the ‘body’ and ‘/body’ above my text, then saved it as html and uploaded it using file manager on hostgator. That file is now in public_html, and it’s named livewithagoldenretrieverchowmix.html. I am pretty sure that’s my mistake, but I have no idea how to do it right. Can I just copy the whole content into the index.php? Sorry, I’m just not that savvy. I would appreciate a little detailed help SO much. HostGator support didn’t even tell me if it’s right or wrong, they just gave me that long link (the second one I show in my first question), and that was it.
And can I just change width of my ad i.e. to half of 728? Or do I better create a new ad using Adsense?
Again, I appreciate any detailed help I can get, I’m totally lost right now and can’t continue.Forum: Fixing WordPress

In reply to: Newbie needs help again – code for ad is not saved in html fileHello Kenneth,
Thank you for your reply. You are very kind, and by no means your parents would love to get rid of you :).Here is what I did so far: I opened the file with the html-code via View – Source on my site and saved it on my hard drive. It openes up with Notepad, I copied the code into it, right underneath the title as I selected Leader Board, and saved it. Then I uploaded it to hostgator cPanel, into the folder you told me to. Now it’s sitting in wp-content – themes – default as a txt-file I am still using the default theme). Is that what I am doing wrong? Having it as a txt-file?
And please let me know if I am bothering you too much.
Thanks again,
HildeForum: Themes and Templates
