Any update on being able to stay in the same subcategory?

I’m looking at this exact same scenario. If you check the parent category of a product instead of just the subcategory, the related items that it brings in are related to the parent category instead of just the subcategory. Is there something I can do to restrict it to just the subcategory only on my related products?
